Oracle of Pieces
Inspired by IKEA’s replacement part program, which offers thousands of pieces shipped for free, I wanted to take that dataset and completely separate it from the context of furniture repair.
The result is this online fortune-telling device, which hints at its point of origin through screw head graphics and a genie I nicknamed Ike.
Using a web scraper, I built my own database of these spare parts and assign them based on data like IP address and time of day, as well as responses to the site’s questions. I also wrote and built my own name and description database, which uses a similar probability system.
