Poor Theory

Responding to Ackbar Abbas’ Poor Theory: Notes Toward a Manifesto, Clara Cayosa and I created this three-dimensional, sculptural piece of typography.

Beginning with scrap pieces of acrylic from a laser cutter, we created a set of modular pieces, which we then assembled into the structure. Then, we mapped our writing onto the arranged pieces, disassembled the structure and engraved each piece, creating distortion throughout the type. 

Although it can be read best in this assembled form, the set is designed to be inifintely remixable, with notches providing multiple potential joining points.
